Exact Sciences is a cancer diagnostics company based in Madison, Wisconsin. It makes tests for early cancer detection, screening and treatment guidance. Cologuard and Cologuard Plus screen for colorectal cancer. Oncotype DX tests assess the risk that breast or colon cancer will return. Cancerguard is a multi-cancer early detection test. In 2024 the company tested more than 4 million people.
Exact Sciences was founded in 1995 in Marlborough, Massachusetts, by Stanley Lapidus and Anthony Shuber. It bought Genomic Health for $2.8 billion in 2019, and by the end of 2023 had about 6,500 employees and $2.50 billion in revenue. In November 2025, Abbott Laboratories agreed to buy the company for about $21 billion, a deal expected to close in 2026. That puts one of the biggest names in cancer screening inside a much larger device maker.
